Here's the truth: finding a therapist who actually gets you, without making you explain your entire identity before you even talk about what brought you in, is exhausting. If you've ever sat in a therapist's office and felt the energy drain out of you because you had to educate them on what polyamory is, or why your ADHD diagnosis at 32 is actually a big deal, or why "but you don't look trans" isn't the compliment they think it is… yeah. We see you.
At Byrnes Counseling Group, you don't have to do that work. You get to just be. And we get to do what we do best: help you navigate whatever brought you here in the first place.
This is your roadmap to what we offer, not as a clinical menu, but as a guide to finding your fit. Whether you're in Florida or joining us from our exciting expansion into Pennsylvania, let's walk through this together.

LGBTQ+ Counseling: More Than Just a Rainbow Flag in the Window
Look, slapping a pride flag on your website doesn't make you affirming. What does make us affirming? We're trans-led, we live in the communities we serve, and we've done our own work. That means when you walk in (or log on), you're not a teaching moment, you're a client.
Our LGBTQ+ counseling covers the full spectrum: identity exploration, coming out (at any age, there's no expiration date on living authentically), navigating family dynamics, dealing with discrimination and microaggressions, and just… existing in a world that wasn't built with us in mind.
Couples counseling? We do that too. Whether you're monogamous, poly, queer, straight-passing but not straight, or anything in between, we help couples communicate better, repair ruptures, and build relationships that feel good for everyone involved. No weird assumptions about who does the dishes based on gender roles, promise.
Transgender Support & Gender-Affirming Care: Chasing Gender Euphoria

As a trans-identified therapist, I (Tristan) know what it's like to be on both sides of this conversation. Gender exploration isn't a straight line, it's messy, it's nonlinear, and sometimes it's confusing as hell. That's okay.
We provide support through all stages: questioning, exploration, social transition, medical transition, or just vibing in your identity without any of those steps. We also write letters for gender-affirming care when you're ready, and we don't gatekeep. If you know what you need, we're not here to make you jump through hoops.
But here's what we really want to talk about: gender euphoria. Not just reducing dysphoria (though that matters), but actively pursuing joy. That first time you see yourself in the mirror and think "oh, there I am." The moment someone uses your name and it feels like coming home. That's the goal. That's what we're here to help you find.
EMDR Therapy: When Talking About Trauma Isn't Enough
Trauma lives in the body. Sometimes talking about it over and over doesn't actually help you heal, it just retraumatizes you on repeat. That's where EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) comes in.
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain reprocess traumatic memories so they're no longer running the show. It's especially helpful for PTSD, complex trauma, and those memories that feel "stuck", the ones that still make your heart race or your chest tighten years later.
We offer EMDR therapy via telehealth, which means you can do this work from the safety of your own space. For our LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent clients, that privacy and control can make all the difference.
BDSM & Polyamory-Informed Therapy: You Shouldn't Have to Translate Your Life
Here's the thing about alternative relationship structures and kink: they're not pathological. They're not something that needs to be "fixed." And you shouldn't have to spend the first three sessions explaining what a metamour is or why impact play is actually a form of intimacy for you.
We're poly and kink-affirming because we are poly and kink-aware. We understand negotiation, consent culture, relationship anarchy, power exchange dynamics, and everything in between. Whether you're navigating jealousy in your polycule, processing a scene that didn't go as planned, or just need support while your vanilla therapist keeps side-eyeing your relationship structure, we got you.
This also extends to our couples work: if you're in an ENM (ethically non-monogamous) relationship and need help with communication, boundaries, or repairing trust, we speak your language.

Neurodivergent-Affirming Care: ADHD, AuDHD, and the Late Diagnosis Club
Let's talk about adult ADHD diagnosis. If you're reading this and thinking "wait, maybe this explains my entire life," you're not alone. So many neurodivergent adults, especially women, AFAB folks, and people of color, were missed as kids because they didn't fit the stereotype of a hyperactive white boy disrupting class.
Maybe you were "just anxious" or "too sensitive" or "not living up to your potential." Maybe you masked so hard that nobody noticed you were struggling. Maybe you're realizing at 35 that executive dysfunction isn't a moral failing, it's your brain literally working differently.
We specialize in supporting neurodivergent adults, particularly those with ADHD and AuDHD (that's ADHD + Autism, for those keeping track). We address the ADHD stigma that makes people feel like they're "making excuses" when they ask for accommodations. We help you unmask safely, manage burnout, and build systems that actually work for your brain, not some neurotypical ideal.
Late-in-life diagnosis can feel like grief and relief all at once. We'll help you make sense of both.
Online Therapy Pennsylvania (and Florida Too!)
Big news: We're expanding! While we've been serving Florida with both telehealth and in-person options, we're thrilled to now offer online therapy in Pennsylvania as well.
This means if you're searching for LGBTQ therapy in Pennsylvania and coming up empty on providers who actually understand your experiences, you've found us. Our telehealth platform makes it easy to connect from anywhere in the Keystone State, whether you're in Philly, Pittsburgh, or anywhere in between.
Florida folks? You already know we're here for you. Telehealth across the state, plus in-person sessions at our Pinellas Park office if that's your vibe.
What Working Together Actually Looks Like

We use evidence-based approaches like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), but we're not rigid about it. Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, and we tailor our approach to what works for you.
Some sessions might be deep processing work. Others might be practical problem-solving about how to remember to eat lunch when your ADHD brain is convinced time is a social construct. We'll laugh sometimes (I promise my humor isn't as bad as my dad jokes… okay, it might be). We'll sit with hard things sometimes. And we'll celebrate your wins: big and small.
You're not a diagnosis. You're not a problem to be solved. You're a whole person trying to navigate a complicated world, and we're just here to walk alongside you while you do it.
