Happy Friday! We’ve officially reached the end of "Christy Week" here at Byrnes Counseling Group, and if you’ve been following along, you’ve probably caught some of the highlights. But let’s be real for a second: picking a therapist isn't like ordering a pizza. You can’t just look at a five-star review and know if they’re going to understand the specific nuances of your life, your identity, or the way your brain handles a Tuesday afternoon.
It’s all about the Vibe Check.
Earlier this week, Sonny posted about how Christy is "warm, affirming, and just… gets it." Today, I want to dive deeper into why she gets it and why she might be the exact person you’ve been looking for to help navigate this wild ride called life.
A Trans-Led Space for Real People
At Byrnes Counseling Group, we aren't just "affirming" in the way some people put a rainbow sticker on their door and then ask you what "AFAB" means. We are a trans-led practice. Our co-founder, Tristan Byrnes, built this group because he knows: from lived experience: that the LGBTQ+ community deserves better than "tolerance." We deserve to be understood.
Christy fits perfectly into this mission. As a trans-identified therapist, she skips the "Trans 101" training you often have to give your therapist. You don’t have to spend your first three sessions (and your hard-earned money) explaining the basics of gender identity, the frustration of misgendering, or the complexities of the healthcare system. She’s already there.
Whether you’re exploring your gender for the first time or you’ve been out for decades and just want to talk about your anxiety without your gender being the "problem," Christy provides a space where you can just exist.
Beyond the Binary: Poly, Kink, and Relationship Diversity
Let’s talk about another huge part of the vibe check: relationship structures. If you’re polyamorous, in a non-traditional relationship, or part of the kink community, finding a therapist can feel like a minefield. You don’t want someone who views your lifestyle as a "symptom" of trauma or something to be "fixed."
Christy is explicitly poly- and kink-affirming. She understands that love, intimacy, and connection come in all shapes and sizes. Her approach is rooted in the belief that your relationship structure should be respected and understood, not questioned. If you’re navigating the dynamics of a polycule or looking for someone who won't blink twice when you mention your community involvement, Christy is that person.
The Neurodivergent-Friendly Vibe
If your brain works a little differently: maybe you have ADHD, you’re autistic, or you just have some "spicy" executive functioning: the traditional therapy "vibe" can feel a little stiff. The "sit still and make eye contact for 50 minutes" requirement is, quite frankly, exhausting.
We’ve designed our new office layout with exactly this in mind. When you walk into a session with Christy, you’re not entering a sterile hospital room. You’re entering a space that actually respects your sensory needs.

In our office, we have fidget toys, tongue drums, and comfortable seating that doesn't demand you sit "properly." If you need to stim, move around, or look at the ceiling while you process a big emotion, that is 100% encouraged. Christy’s approach is collaborative and flexible. She’s not here to be a "blank slate" authority figure; she’s here to work with you.
Rewriting the Script: Narrative Therapy and Practical Tools
So, what does the actual work look like? Christy uses a mix of Narrative Therapy and practical tools like DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
Narrative Therapy is a fancy way of saying we look at the stories you’ve been told about yourself. Society, family, and even our own brains can feed us some pretty toxic scripts:
- "I'm too much."
- "I'll never be 'normal' enough."
- "My body is a problem to be solved."
Christy helps you pull those stories apart and see them for what they are: external narratives that don't define you. You get to be the author of your own story.
But sometimes, "talking it out" isn't enough. Sometimes you’re in the middle of a panic attack or a spiral and you need a tool now. That’s where her background in mindfulness and emotional regulation comes in.

She uses tools like the Emotion Wheel to help you put words to the "big feels" when they feel like an overwhelming blob of static. It’s about building a toolkit so that when life gets loud, you have something to reach for.
Dealing with the Hard Stuff: Trauma and Growth
Let’s be honest: a lot of us in the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent communities carry a fair amount of trauma. Whether it’s religious trauma, medical trauma, or the "micro"-traumas of living in a world that wasn't built for us, it adds up.
Christy’s approach is deeply trauma-informed. This means she understands how trauma lives in the body and how it affects your nervous system. She isn't going to push you to talk about things before you're ready. The goal is to create enough safety so that you can actually start to heal, rather than just surviving day to day.

She’s particularly passionate about:
- Gender Identity Exploration: Navigating the "what now?" of transition or questioning.
- Anxiety & Depression: Especially when it’s tangled up with identity or feeling like you don't fit in.
- Grief and Loss: Not just the loss of people, but the loss of versions of ourselves or the lives we thought we’d have.
Real Talk: The Logistics
We know that "finding the right fit" also involves things like "can I afford this?" and "how do I get there?"
- Cost: Christy is a Pre-Licensed Professional (MS, RMHCI), which allows us to offer her services at a more accessible rate: about $100 per session. We also have a sliding scale because we believe mental health care shouldn't just be for the wealthy.
- Location: She offers telehealth across the entire state of Florida and in-person sessions at our office. So, whether you want to chat from your couch with your cat or come sit on our couch with our fidget toys, we’ve got you covered.
- Supervision: Since she is pre-licensed, she works under the direct supervision of Tristan Byrnes. This means you’re essentially getting the benefit of two clinical brains for the price of one!
Is Christy Your Person?
At the end of the day, you are the expert on your own life. You know what you need. If you’re looking for a therapist who:
- Doesn't make you explain your pronouns or your relationship structure.
- Welcomes your neurodivergent brain and your sensory needs.
- Combines deep "healing the past" work with "surviving the present" tools.
- Has a sense of humor and doesn't act like a robot.
Then Christy Wolf is definitely worth a vibe check.
You don't have to commit to a lifetime of therapy right away. We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. It’s a low-stakes way to see if the energy feels right. You can ask her questions, tell her what you’re looking for, and see if you feel that "click."
