You’ve made it to the end of the week. Whether you’ve been following "Christy Week" since Monday or you just stumbled onto the blog while doom-scrolling for answers, we’re glad you’re here. At Byrnes Counseling Group, we do things a little differently. We aren’t interested in being clinical robots behind a mahogany desk. We’re a trans-led practice, and we know that the most important part of therapy, the thing that actually makes you feel better, isn’t a fancy degree or a framed certificate. It’s the vibe.

Finding a therapist is a lot like dating, except you have to talk about your childhood and you don't get a free drink. It’s high stakes. You’re looking for someone who "gets it" without you having to spend three sessions explaining the basics of your identity, your neurodivergent brain, or why your current life transition feels like a dumpster fire in a hurricane.

Today, we’re doing a final Friday Vibe Check on our newest team member, Christy Wolf. By the end of this post, you’ll know exactly if Christy is the person you want in your corner.

The "Already Understood" Factor: Lived Experience Matters

There is a specific kind of exhaustion that comes from being a trans or non-binary person in a therapist's office and realizing you are the one doing the teaching. You shouldn't have to explain what "HRT" stands for, why "deadnaming" hurts, or the nuance of navigating a world that wasn't built for you.

Christy is trans-identified. When you walk into a session with her (or log into a telehealth call), the "Trans 101" requirement is officially waived. This is a core value of our trans-led practice. We believe that lived experience creates a shorthand, a deep, visceral understanding that you just can't get from a textbook.

If you are questioning your gender, navigating a transition, or just trying to live your best queer life while dealing with the usual human nonsense, Christy provides a space where your identity is the baseline, not the "issue" to be solved.

Narrative Therapy: Rewriting the Script

Are you going through a major life transition? Maybe a breakup, a career shift, or the realization that the life you built doesn't actually fit who you are anymore? These "liminal spaces", the gaps between who you were and who you’re becoming, are where anxiety and depression love to set up camp.

Christy specializes in Narrative Therapy. If that sounds like "storytime for adults," you’re not entirely wrong. Narrative therapy is based on the idea that we all carry stories about ourselves, stories often written by our families, our schools, or a society that told us we weren't "enough."

  • "I’m the one who always fails."
  • "I’m too much for people to handle."
  • "I’ll never be able to handle my anxiety."

Christy helps you take the pen back. She works with you to externalize these problems. You aren't "the depressed person." You are a person experiencing depression, and together, you can look at that depression, figure out its tricks, and rewrite the narrative. It’s punchy, it’s empowering, and it’s a game-changer for people who feel stuck in a loop of negative self-talk.

Check out our blog for more on how these specific modalities can shift your perspective.

The Neuro-Affirming, Sensory-Friendly Space

If your brain works differently, whether that’s ADHD, Autism, or just a general "spiciness", traditional therapy can feel like another place where you’re doing it "wrong." Christy doesn't believe in "fixing" your brain; she believes in supporting it.

Our office is designed for people who need to move to think. We have fidget toys, tongue drums, and weighted items because we know that sitting perfectly still for 50 minutes is a nightmare for some of us.

When you vibe with Christy, you’re vibing with a therapist who understands executive dysfunction. She won't shame you if you forgot to do your "homework" or if your room is a mess. She’ll help you find dopamine-friendly productivity tools that actually work for your specific brain, not the brain a neurotypical society wants you to have.

Body Neutrality: Come As You Are

In a world that is constantly telling us to shrink, change, or "improve" our bodies, Christy’s practice is a sanctuary of body neutrality and self-acceptance. We don't do body-shaming here. We believe that your body is the vessel that carries you through this wild life, and it deserves respect exactly as it is right now.

Whether you’re navigating the intersections of gender and body image, or you’re just tired of the "wellness" industry’s toxic standards, Christy offers a supportive, inclusive environment. We celebrate diversity in all its forms, skin tones, body sizes, and abilities.

Is Christy Your "Person"? (The Quick Checklist)

Still on the fence? Let’s do a quick lightning round.

Christy might be your perfect match if:

  • You want a therapist who identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community and has lived experience as a trans person.
  • You’re tired of the "expert on a pedestal" vibe and want a collaborative, human-to-human connection.
  • You’re a fan of "nerding out" on your own story and want to use Narrative Therapy to tackle anxiety or depression.
  • You identify as polyamorous or kinky and want a therapist who treats your relationship structures as valid and normal.
  • You need a therapist who is telehealth-savvy and can meet you where you are in Florida.

She might not be the right fit if:

  • You’re looking for a very rigid, "old-school" psychoanalytic approach where the therapist barely speaks.
  • You want a therapist who will give you a strict, 10-step "fix-it" plan without exploring the deeper "why."
  • You specifically need a provider with 30 years of experience (Christy is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, which means she’s freshly trained and brings high energy and current research to her sessions, all under expert supervision).

The Practical Stuff (Because We Love Clarity)

Christy is currently accepting new clients in Florida. As a pre-licensed therapist (RMHCI), she offers a more accessible rate of $100 per individual session, and she also works with Open Path for those needing a sliding scale.

Working with a pre-licensed therapist is often a "best-kept secret" in mental health. You get a clinician who is deeply invested, up-to-date on the latest evidence-based practices, and who has a licensed supervisor (like the ones you see on our Meet Our Therapists page) backing them up. It’s like getting two clinical brains for the price of one.
